Restaurant bookings made easy

I was asked to redesign Bookatable’s iOS native app and to bring the same functionality to a new Android app.CHALLENGESThe goal was to create a consistent experience, while optimising resources and making the most of the possibilities of each platform. On the technical side, we had to deal with code legacy and API limitations. To overcome this, I worked side by side with product owners and developers to sketch out different solutions.

User flows for Bookatable native apps
Mapped out the key user flows with screen printouts

What I did

Planned and conducted usability testing sessions to unveil user needs, detect areas of improvement in the old app and the main points of friction when making a bookings.•Researched best practices and UI conventions for each platform• Defined features, use cases and user stories• Sketched and prototyped the app using a range of tools, from pen & paper to InVision, to create interactive prototypes and test early and often• Created wireframes of key templates for multiple screen sizes and developed a comprehensive style and component library that included typography, swatches, modules and other re-usable elements• Designed the final user interface, supervising the implementation by the development team, to achieve pixel-perfect results.

Since the first release of the iOS app, there has been a 400% increase in conversion and user acquisition, and its rating has gone from 2 to 5 stars in the App Store. The Android App was released in Q4 2014 and since then it has also seen a significant improvement and uplift in conversion.
